1966, Television: “Raumpatrouille – Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes Orion”

The German television series “Raumpatrouille – Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes Orion” (“Space Patrol – The Fantastic Adventures of the Spaceship Orion”) premieres on 17 September 1966, it was broadcasted by ARD. Directed by Theo Mezger and Michael Braun it was the first German science fiction television series, only seven episodes were produced. The theme music was composed by Peter Thomas.


Synopsis
Nations no longer exist and Earth is united. The planet is protected by human made flying saucers like the Orion against attacks by aliens called the Frogs. Commander Cliff Allister McLane (Dietmar Schönherr) is the captain of the Orion and together with his loyal crew he tries to protect the Earth...

1966, Television: T.H.E. Cat

On September 16, 1966, the American crime series "T.H.E. Cat" premieres on NBC. The series was created by Harry Julian Fink and produced by Boris Sagal. The title role, Thomas Hewitt Edward Cat, was played by Robert Loggia. The title music was written by Lalo Schifrin. "T.H.E. Cat" was produced for only one season with a total of 26 filmed episodes.

Synopsis
Thomas Hewitt Edward Cat, a former circus acrobat and jewel thief is now a professional bodyguard. He operates from the "Casa Del Gato" ("House Of The Cat") in San Francisco, which he partly owns...

1966, Belgian Comics: “Suske en Wiske”, “De Dulle Griet”

In 1966 a new "Suske en Wiske" (UK: "Bob & Bobette" or "Spike and Suzy", US: "Willy and Wanda") album is published: "De Dulle Griet" (English title: "Dull Gret” aka “Mad Meg”). The series “Suske en Wiske” was created by Willy Vandersteen in 1945.

The story was pre-published in the newspapers "De Standaard" and "Het Nieuwsblad" from 22 February 1966 until 1 July 1966. The main characters are Suske (Spike), Wiske (Suzy), Schanulleke, aunt Sidonia, Lambik (Ambrose), Jerom (Jethro), professor Barabas, Dulle Griet (Mad Meg), Lowie, and Dulle Grietjes (little Mad Meg's). The locations for this story are Antwerp and Bokrijk with the Mol-Sluis barn. The album was reedited in 1967 as No 78 in the coloured series.

1966, Belgian Comics: “Gil Jourdan” ("Guus Slim")

In 1966 the new "Gil Jourdan" ("Guus Slim") album "Le Gant à trois doigts" ("Drie vingers") is published by Dupuis. The story first appeared in Spirou magazine (26 November 1964 - 22 April 1965). The Belgian detective comic "Gil Jourdan" was created by Maurice Tillieux in 1956. The first story appeared in Spirou magazine n° 962. Jourdan was based on Felix, an earlier creation by Tillieux. Main characters are Gil Jourdan a Paris-based detective and a Bachelor of Law, Andre Papignolles alias Libellule (English: "Dragonfly") a former burglar who becomes Jourdan's right-hand, Inspector Jules Annibal Crouton Jourdan's police contact and, Queue-de-Cerise (English: "Cherry Stem") Jourdan's secretary. The Renault Dauphine was Jourdan's choice of vehicle in his early adventures. In later adventures he drove a Fiat Dino Coupé, a Renault 16 or a Renault 17.

Synopsis
When a box loaded with gloves with just three fingers on them is seized by French customs, Jourdan follows up the case to a Middle Eastern emirate. There he is promptly captured and jailed, but escapes leaving a wave of chaos behind him...
