1972, Film: "Les Malheurs d'Alfred"

The French comedy "Les Malheurs d'Alfred" ("The Troubles of Alfred") premieres on 8 March 1972 in France. The film was directed and co-written by the major star Pierre Richard. Other stars are Anny Duperey, Pierre Mondy and Jean Carmet.

Synopsis
Alfred Dhumonttyé (Pierre Richard), a young architect, has been unlucky since his childhood. Everything he undertakes is doomed to fail. After another fiasco, one evening Alfred decides to commit suicide by throwing himself into the water in a canal in Paris. By an extraordinary coincidence, the same day at the same time and place, Agathe Bodard (Anny Duperey), a depressive television presenter, had the same idea...

1972, Belgian Comics: “Karl May”, “De Erfvijanden”

In 1972 the 32nd "Karl May" album, "De Erfvijanden" ("The Hereditary Enemies") was published by "Standaard Uitgeverij". When the rights to Karl May's stories were released in 1962, Willy Vandersteen started with a comic series based on the books written by German author Karl May. The first two albums were titled "Old Shatterhand" (n° 1) and "Winnetou" (n° 2). From 1962 up to 1985 a total of 87 albums were published.

1972, Television: “The Streets of San Francisco”

On Saturday September 16, 1972, the American police series "The Streets of San Francisco" premieres on ABC. The series, produced by Quinn Martin Productions, was developed by Edward Hume. The main roles Detective Lt. Mike Stone and Inspector Steve Keller were played respectively by Karl Malden and Michael Douglas. Michael Douglas left the series at the start of its final season and was replaced by Richard Hatch. From September 16, 1972 to June 9, 1977 (5 seasons), a total of 119 60-minute episodes and one 98-minute pilot were produced. The series theme was composed by Patrick Williams.

The pilot episode was based on the novel “Poor, Poor Ophelia” by Carolyn Weston (1972) and starred Robert Wagner, Tom Bosley and Kim Darby.

1972, Film: “Trop jolies pour être honnêtes”

The French-Italian-Spanish comedy "Trop jolies pour être honnêtes" (English: "Too Pretty to Be Honest") is released on 29 November 1972 in France. The film is also known as "4 Souris pour un hold-up". Directed by Richard Balducci and written by Catherine Carone, the film stars Jane Birkin, Emma Cohen, Bernadette Lafont and Elisabeth Wiener. The music was written by Serge Gainsbourg.

Synopsis
Four female roommates, Bernadette (Bernadette Lafont), Christine (Jane Birkin), Frédérique (Elisabeth Wiener), and Martine (Emma Cohen), discover that a group of thieves are keeping their stolen goods in the flat across the street. The women plan their own burglary of the already stolen loot...

1972, Belgian Comics: “Kari Lente”

In 1972 the "Kari Lente" album "Het Zwartgallige Spoor" is published (04/10/1972 – 14/12/1972) in the Flemish newspaper "Gazet van Antwerpen". The series "Kari Lente", initially titled "Kari Lente lost het op", was created by Bob Mau (1926 - 2006) in 1962. The stories were published in album form until 1969 by "Standaard Uitgeverij". The album "Het Zwartgallige Spoor" was published in 1976 by "Born" under the title "Kari Lente & Co". The album was republished in 1982 as "Het energiegas van Professor Knitsel" by P.S.I./Bridge as a sales promotion for Bonzo/Purina.

The main character of the comic is the journalist Kari Lente (translation: Kari Spring), along with her faithful little cat Titus and fellow journalist Bikkel. The somewhat frumpy detective Sus Pens, the strange creature Slurfie and the awkward professor Knitsel were added later.

1972, Television: “The Adventures of Black Beauty”

17 September 1972, the British children's television series "The Adventures of Black Beauty" premieres on ITV. The series produced by "London Weekend Television" and "Talbot Television", was based on the classic novel "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell featuring new characters created by Ted Willis. Main stars were Judi Bowker, Roderick Shaw, William Lucas and Charlotte Mitchell. The musical theme was written by Denis King. A total of 52 episodes were filmed in 2 seasons. (1972 – 1974)

Synopsis
Widower Dr. James Gordon (William Lucas) moves with his two children Vicky (Judi Bowker) and Kevin (Roderick Shaw) from Victorian London to the village of Five Oaks. A black horse escapes from a dealer and is found by Vicky. James Gordon treats the horse's illness and refuses to surrender him until he's well. Vicky, names the horse "Black Beauty". The owner, Mr. Ryder (Denis Carey) agrees to let the horse stay a few days before he takes him back to be sold. When Mr. Ryder falls ill Dr. Gordon speedly drives "Black Beauty" to save his life...
