1971, Music: Eurovision Song Contest

The 16th Eurovision Song Contest was held on 3 April 1971 at the "Gaiety Theatre”, Dublin, Ireland. Bernadette Ní Ghallchóir presented the festival and of the 18 participants Séverine won for Monaco with "Un banc, un arbre, une rue". It was Monaco's first and to this day only victory. The song was performed by a French singer, living in France, sung in French, conducted by a French native and written by a French team.

1970, Music: Eurovision Song Contest

The 15th Eurovision Song Contest was held on 21 March 1970 at the RAI Congrescentrum in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Willy Dobbe presented the festival and of the 12 participants Dana (Dana Rosemary Scallon) won for Ireland with "All Kinds of Everything".

It was Ireland's first win, 9 of the 10 Belgian jury members awarded their votes to Ireland. The UK were second, six votes behind Ireland. Luxembourg received zero votes. Austria , Finland, Norway, Portugal and Sweden withdrew from contest because they disagreed with the result of 1969 and the voting structure. Notable performers were Mary Hopkin (UK) and Julio Iglesias (Spain).

1968, Music: Eurovision Song Contest

The 13th Eurovision Song Contest was held on 6 April 1968 at the "Royal Albert Hall”, London, UK. Katie Boyle presented the festival and of the 17 participants Massiel won for Spain with "La La La".
Originally Spain entered Joan Manuel Serrat to sing "La La La", but after his demand to sing in Catalan Serrat was withdrawn and replaced by Massiel, who sang the same song in Spanish. It was the first time that the Eurovision Song Contest was broadcast in colour. Katie Boyle hosted the contest for a third time.
