1969, Belgian Comics: “Jommeke: Anakwaboe”

The fortieth "De belevenissen van Jommeke" (translation: "The Adventures of Jommeke") album "Anakwaboe" is published in 1969. The comic series was created by Jef Nys in 1955, it was first published in "Kerkelijk Leven" (translation: "Religious Life"). In 1959 the first full length adventure appeared in the newspaper "Het Volk". After the bankrupcy of "Het Volk" in 2010, the stories were published in the newspapers "Het Nieuwsblad", "De Gentenaar" and "De Standaard". The main character is "Jommeke", an 11-year-old boy.

  • Jommeke has been translated into French as "Gil et Jo", in English as "Jeremy and Frankie", in German as "Peter und Alexander" and in Swedish as "Peter och Alexander".
  • The name of the main character "Jommeke" is based on a folk figure from Wilrijk (near Antwerp), the village where Jef Nys lived.
  • The battle cry used by the villans, “Anakwaboe”, is a contraction of the first three letters of the names of Anatool, Kwak and Boemel.

1968, Television: “De Fabeltjeskrant” (“The Daily Fable”)

29 September 1968, the Dutch children’s television series “De Fabeltjeskrant” is broadcast for the first time on the Dutch channel NOS. The series, created by Leen Valkenier and produced by Thijs Chanowski, featured a combination of puppetry and stop motion. The first episodes were based upon the fables of Jean de La Fontaine. The main character, the owl "Meneer de Uil", introduces each episode reading a fable. The original series was broadcast on the Dutch channel NOS and the Belgian channel BRT (VRT). After 1041 episodes the series ended on 31 Augustus 1974.

The original characters were Jacob de Uil (the wise Owl), Lowieke de Vos (the cunning Fox), Meneer de Raaf (Mr. Raven) and Juffrouw Ooievaar (Miss Stork). Leen Valkenier added the brothers Ed and Willem Bever (Beaver), Zoef de Haas (Hare), Bor the Wolf, Meindert the Horse and the Hamster sisters. At the start of the series all characters were voiced by Frans van Dusschoten, Ger Smit en Elsje Scherjon.

1967, Film: "Fantômas contre Scotland Yard"

The French comedy / crime film "Fantômas contre Scotland Yard" premiered on 16 March 1967 in France. The film was directed by André Hunebelle and written by Jean Halain and Pierre Foucaud, based on the novels by Pierre Souvestre and Marcel Allain. Main stars are Jean Marais in the double role as Fantômas and Fandor, Louis de Funès as Le commissaire Juve and Mylène Demongeot as Hélène Gurn. The music was composed by Michel Magne. This is the third and final episode of the Fantômas trilogy after "Fantômas" (1964) and "Fantômas se déchaîne" (1965).

Synopsis
Fantômas (Jean Marais) imposes a head tax on the rich, threatening to kill those who do not comply. Journalist Fandor (Jean Marais), his fiancée Hélène (Mylène Demongeot) and commissaire Juve (Louis de Funès) are invited to Scotland by Lord McRashley (Jean-Roger Caussimon)...
