1969, Belgian Comics: De fratsen van Jan Heibel, Schild en vriend

In 1969, the album "Schild en vriend" was published by Het Volk as the third album in the comic series "De Fratsen van Jan Heibel". The character Jan Heibel was created by Hugo De Reymaeker, who worked under the pseudonym Hurey. The character originally appeared in a newspaper gag strip entitled "Jan Heibel en Piet Koning", published in the Belgian newspaper Het Volk. The series is set in the fourteenth century and follows Jan, a burly but none-too-bright butcher. His name is a pun on that of Jan Breydel, while his sidekick, Piet Koning, is a play on the name of Breydel's close friend Pieter de Coninck. From 1967 onwards, the stories appeared under the title "De Fratsen van Jan Heibel", with Jan accompanied by his son Dagobert.
