Synopsis
On 4 July 1759, the Count de La Tour, Marquis of Valmorin, dies, leaving a will stipulating that it must not be opened for two hundred years. Moreover, his fortune is to pass only to the descendant who suffers from an incurable disease.
Hoping to claim the inheritance for their own families, the principal creditor, Galopin, and the Marquis’s notary, Maître Leboiteux, devise a plan: at least one descendant must be present at the opening of the will, allowing them to seize the fortune themselves.
On 4 July 1959, in Geneva, Albert Leboiteux and his associate, Meyer, intend to swindle the heirs under the guise of a “charitable cause”. Meanwhile, the Marquis’s descendants arrive from across the world to attend the long-awaited opening of the notorious will: Pierre from Switzerland, Luigi from Italy, Ingrid from Denmark, Mathilde from France, William from the United States, Hannibal from Africa, and Smith from Scotland...
