On 21 October 1964, the French comedy film Patate premiered. Directed by Robert Thomas, the film was based on his own screenplay, adapted from the 1957 play of the same name by Marcel Achard. The musical score was composed by Raymond Le Sénéchal. The leading roles were played by Pierre Dux, Jean Marais, Danielle Darrieux, Anne Vernon and Sylvie Vartan.

Synopsis
Léon Rollo (Pierre Dux), an unsuccessful inventor of electronic toys, lives with his charming wife Edith (Danielle Darrieux) and their daughter Alexa (Sylvie Vartan). He feels inferior to his friend Noël Carradine (Jean Marais), a wealthy and successful industrialist. Carradine has nicknamed him "Patate" and rarely misses an opportunity to belittle him. One day, Léon discovers that his daughter is involved in a secret relationship, and he becomes convinced that Carradine is the man in question…
